Apparently, New York duo Licky have got a pretty
chaotic line-up history… Which did not prevent multi-instrumentalists
founders Lips and Sacky to carry on against all odds (and the whole world).
Being products of the New York underground scene, they seem to have absorbed
most of the different genres and scenes available, mixed them in their
weird sound lab, adding a few of their own fantasies. Licky are trash,
dumb, - hopefully - ironic, and provocative, but above all, they really
do sound like they are mainly in it FOR THE FUN.
Computer generated blips and other noises borrow from the 80s-inspired
electroclash movement, and mix with guitars and other instruments.
(Goth Girls has got punk elements like guitars and shouty voice
reminding us of a Sex Pistols track. Mista Big Spenda is a sleazy
electrotrash one taking the mickey out of consumerism. The extremely un-PC
track Pretend To Be Gay would make quite a lot of teeth grind,
by claiming that «Sometimes you have to pretend to be gay to
get some pussy…». They still managed to make me laugh,
though. Light, catchy entertainment.
